If you're active in the dog space on social media—or you own a reactive pup—chances are you've heard of Sniffspot. Think of it as the Airbnb of private dog parks. It’s a game-changer for those of us who want to give our dogs (reactive or not) the off-leash freedom they deserve without the unpredictability and stress of a public dog park.
Let’s be honest: public dog parks can be chaotic. You never know what kind of dogs (or owners) you’ll encounter, and for reactive dogs, this can quickly lead to setbacks in training or unnecessary stress. Unfortunately, if you don’t have a yard, your options are often limited.
Even if you do have a yard, walking your dog might not be an option due to their reactivity.
That’s where Sniffspot truly shines—it offers a safe and controlled environment to get your dog out of the house and into a fresh setting, without the stress of unexpected encounters.
It’s not just great for your dog—it’s great for you, too. If you find yourself feeling anxious about walking in public spaces or working on training outside the home, Sniffspot gives you the opportunity to practice in peace. Knowing with 100% certainty that you won’t run into any triggers allows you to build your own confidence as a handler. Over time, this helps you develop the skills and mindset you’ll need when you’re ready to slowly introduce your dog to more challenging environments.
The platform allows you to book a private outdoor space—just for you and your pup (and sometimes a friend or two). These dog-friendly spots are owned by individuals across the country who list their yards, fields, and open spaces for rent by the hour.
If you live in or near a popular city, you’ll likely have several options to choose from. But even in less populated areas, Sniffspot is expanding rapidly, making it easier than ever to find a safe space for your dog to just be a dog.
What makes Sniffspot especially valuable—especially for reactive dog owners—is how customizable the experience can be. Each listing provides detailed information about:
The size of the space
Whether it’s fully fenced or has a privacy fence
Potential visibility or audibility of other dogs, people, or animals
Amenities like agility equipment, pools, restrooms, shade, and toys
You can easily find a spot that suits your dog’s needs, whether you're looking for mental stimulation, physical enrichment, or simply a stress-free environment.
Our First Sniffspot Experience

A few weeks ago, I booked our very first Sniffspot to celebrate Marlee’s birthday—and it was everything I hoped for and more.
As the owner of a reactive bully breed, judgement follows us everywhere and I often find myself wishing I could offer her more adventures, more freedom, and more fun. But the reality is, many public outings can do more harm than good- for both of us. The judgment, the unpredictability, the overstimulation... it can all become too much.
So when I found out about Sniffspot, I was immediately intrigued. A private, fenced-in space? No off-leash dogs to worry about? No strangers giving me that look? Yes, please.
The spot I chose was about 20 minutes away and completely secluded, with privacy fencing and no street noise. It featured an agility course, toys, tons of scents from previous visitors, and plenty of shady spots for breaks.
The moment we arrived, Marlee bolted into the yard, nose to the ground, thrilled by the buffet of smells. She spent a solid chunk of time just sniffing around before we explored the agility course and tested out the toys. Her absolute favorite was a tether ball/tug setup that had her fully engaged and having a blast. She was nonstop the entire time—except for a few water breaks.
By the time we got back in the car, she collapsed into the seat, totally wiped out in the best way. She slept nearly the rest of the day, and I was able to get some work done with the peace of mind that I had done something special just for her.

Why Sniffspot Matters for Reactive Dogs
Reactive dogs are often unfairly labeled as “bad” dogs. But the truth is - they just need different kinds of support and experiences. Sniffspot gives them the freedom to safely explore and decompress, without the triggers that can set them off.
A mentally and physically fulfilled dog is not only happier but often more focused and easier to manage during training. And as a dog parent, it’s incredibly rewarding to see your pup just enjoy being a dog- no stress, no pressure, no judgment.
Final Thoughts
Sniffspot is now something I plan to incorporate into our routine- ideally weekly. It’s a small way to reward Marlee for all her hard work and give her the quality of life she deserves while respecting her emotional needs.
If you’ve ever tried Sniffspot, I’d love to hear about your experience in the comments below! And if you haven’t yet, I can’t recommend it enough- whether you have a reactive dog or just want a new way to treat your pup.
