Halloween is full of excitement — costumes, decorations, and trick-or-treaters around every corner. But for some dogs, all that commotion can be a little too spooky.
Maybe you don’t have children or simply prefer a quiet night in — why not turn it into a cozy celebration with your pup? If your dog enjoys peace over parties and cuddles over crowds, here are some fun, enriching ways to enjoy Halloween together indoors!
Create a “Sniff & Seek” Game
Turn your living room into a scent-filled adventure! Hide small treats or pieces of kibble around the room and let your dog sniff them out. You can make it easy by placing them in plain sight, or level it up by hiding them under cups, behind furniture, or inside toys. It’s a great way to burn mental energy and keep them entertained.
Make Halloween-Themed Enrichment Toys
Stuff a few Halloween-themed toys — like pumpkin or ghost plushies — with treats or kibble for a festive twist. You can even freeze goodies inside a Kong with pumpkin purée or peanut butter for a longer-lasting challenge.Marlee has been obsessed with her cauldron toy from this month’s Bullymake Box — it keeps her busy for a solid hour and earns her a well-deserved nap afterward! No themed toys? No problem! You can make your own using simple household items like toilet paper tubes, muffin tins, or a Halloween dishcloth wrapped around treats.
Host a Halloween Movie Night

This is exactly what Marlee and I will be doing this Halloween. As the sun sets, grab your coziest blankets and pillows, and settle in for a movie marathon. Snack on roasted pumpkin seeds (save a few unsalted, unseasoned ones for your pup!) or plain popcorn without salt or oils.If your dog pays attention to sounds on TV, go for a lighthearted children's movie. If they’re unfazed, put on your favorite spooky classic and just enjoy the snuggles.
Trick Training Challenge
Tricks and treats! Use the evening to brush up on old tricks or teach a new one. It’s a great way to redirect nervous energy and boost confidence. Try fun Halloween-themed cues like “Boo!” for sit, “spin,” or “crawl like a zombie.” Mental work is just as tiring as physical play - so expect a calm, sleepy pup by bedtime.
Create Paw Art Keepsakes

If your dog doesn’t mind having their paws touched, this one’s a must-try. Use dog-safe, non-toxic paint and gently press your dog’s paw onto paper or canvas to make festive paw prints. Turn them into ghosts, pumpkins, or even start on Thanksgiving and Christmas crafts - they make adorable seasonal decorations and keepsakes.
Indoor Scavenger Hunt
Hide your dog’s favorite toys or treats throughout the house and encourage them to “find it.” This fun, low-energy activity keeps their mind working and provides enrichment without stepping outside.
Decompression Snuggle Time

Sometimes, the best way to celebrate is simply to slow down. Close the curtains, turn on soft music or white noise, and let your pup relax with you. Add a calming treat or CBD if needed, and take the time for yourself too — read a good book, crochet, paint, or even enjoy a little spa night. You both deserve it.
At the end of the day, Halloween is about fun, comfort, and connection — and that includes your dog. Whether you’re crafting, cuddling, or just sharing snacks, celebrating indoors can be just as special (and way less spooky).
So light a candle, grab a blanket, and make this Halloween one to remember for both you and your pup.
